REVIEW OF TAKING IT ALL BY MAYA BANKS

TAKING IT ALL (BOOK 3 IN THE SURRENDER TRILOGY)
WRITTEN BY: MAYA BANKS
REVIEWED BY: APRIL EPLEY

Taking It All (Surrender Trilogy, #3)     Okay, first things first, I love Maya Banks! I have read the first two books in the Surrender Trilogy and I really enjoyed them. I enjoyed this book also, even through the shocks it put me through, and I completed it. I am rating it 3 and a half stars.
I looked forward to reading this story of Tate and Chessy. After enjoying the first two books and loving the characters in those I jumped right in. Tate and Chessy have been married for a while now. Unfortunately the marriage is starting to become a bit neglectful in certain fun filled activities. The communication just is lacking so very much as Tate is trying to keep on building up his successful business. Gotta work to spoil the girl, right? Well there are other things needed there Tate! By the time Chessy finally breaks down and tells Tate of the sadness and how neglected she is feeling, is it too late?
Tate decides to take Chessy out to rekindle some flames. Unfortunately he ends up taking a freaking business call at a very very bad time! Come on TATE, really! You screwed up dude! This part of the book was a bit hard for me as I was yelling and screaming, and my family now thinks I am completely insane. You will have to read it to see why!
I loved how the characters I have grown to love in the first two books were involved in this book. I got to see what was happening with those I fell in love with. I enjoyed that. I loved that there was a HEA. It surprised me a bit. I do not think I could forgive so easily.

Thank you very much for this conclusion. It felt a little rushed at times, however it was nice to have closure to this series after keeping up with the rest of the books. Thank you Maya Banks!

Originally from New England, she now resides in sunny Southern California with her husband, dog and three cats, all of which she has rescued (including the husband). When she’s not planted in front of her computer, writing away, she can be found running and training for her next marathon (of which she has run over fifteen fulls and far too many halfs to recall). Genre: Humorous Contemporary RomanceStandalone Novel
Publisher: Soul Mate
~ SYNOPSIS ~
Twenty-four-year-old Kylie Reed has always been a rule follower. Organized and cautious to a fault, her dreams for life are often filed away for future use—when she has a house, when she meets her future husband, when she has been at her visual display job at a chic Dallas boutique longer...Kylie always has a reason for living her life in the future, not in the present, and not living her life to the fullest and reaching her dream of becoming a fashion designer.

The only exception to rules, of course, would be running away with Prince Harry—Kylie’s ideal man. A hot, fun ginger boy would be worth breaking all the rules for, of course. And Kylie is sure Harry just needs the right, centering woman to settle him down. But living in Dallas and not knowing Prince Harry make this a non-option.

Or does it?

Because when Kylie accidentally falls into the lap of a gorgeous ginger boy—yes, even more gorgeous than the real Prince Harry—all bets are off. Could this stranger be the one to show Kylie how to take a chance, to face her fears, and live in the present? And could this stranger be the Prince Harry she has been waiting for? Kylie’s life takes some unexpected twists and turns thanks to this chance encounter, and she knows her life will never be the same because of it...

~ EXCERPT ~

After we finish dessert, Harrison extends his hand to me. A million butterflies take off in my stomach as I know we’re approaching a different point in the evening now. I give him my hand and he wraps his large hand around mine, squeezing it tightly in his.

I don’t even trust myself to remember to breathe the second he touches me. He leads me to the living room. Harrison sits down on the couch and pulls me down into his lap.

“This,” Harrison says quietly, “is what I’ve wanted to do all night.”

Now his fingertips are trailing up and down my arm, just barely touching it, in a feather-like graze.

“Is that so?” I whisper back, barely functioning now that I feel his skin against mine.

“Kylie, do you remember how I said I didn’t want our first kiss to be what it was?” Harrison whispers.

“I do, but I didn’t mind that.”

Harrison laughs softly. “I know you didn’t. But it’s not how I wanted that moment to be.”

I swallow hard. “How did you want the moment to be?”

Harrison stares at me. He lightly runs his fingers up my arm, across my shoulder, and gliding them up my neck to my cheek, stroking my face again and making every nerve I have jump with desire.

“Gentle,” he whispers. “Like you.”

Harrison slides his hand to the back of my head, cradling it as he moves my face closer to his.

“You have the most beautiful eyes,” Harrison whispers, staring deeply at me. “I see everything I want to see when I look into them.”

I’m melting from the way he’s looking at me, the way he’s talking to me, the way he’s touching me. Harrison’s caressing the nape of my neck now. I lift my hands and wind them around the back of his neck, and I finally touch his ginger curls. They feel like silk against my fingertips, and my nerves jump again in response.

“What do you see right now?” I whisper to him.

About OPPOSITION:

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came. She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all. Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal. They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind. War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

  EXCERPT: Katy

I still stared at Daemon, completely aware that everyone else except him was watching me. Closely. But why wouldn’t he look at me? A razor-sharp panic clawed at my insides. No. Thiscouldn’t be happening. No way.
My body was moving before I even knew what I was doing. From the corner of my eye, I saw Dee shake her head and one of the Luxen males step forward, but I was propelled by an inherent need to prove that my worst fears were not coming true. After all, he’d healed me, but then I thought of what Dee had said, of how Dee had behaved with me. What if Daemon was like her? Turned into something so foreign and cold? He would’ve healed me just to make sure he was okay. I still didn’t stop.
Please, I thought over and over again. Please. Please. Please. On shaky legs, I crossed the long room, and even thoughDaemon hadn’t seemed to even acknowledge my existence, I walked right up to him, my hands trembling as I placed them on his chest. “Daemon?” I whispered, voice thick. His head whipped around, and he was suddenly staring down at me. Our gazes collided once more, and for a second I saw something so raw, so painful in those beautiful eyes. And then his large hands wrapped around my upper arms. The contact seared through the shirt I wore, branding my skin, and I thought—I expected—that he would pull me against him, that he would embrace me, and even though nothing would be all right, it would be better. Daemon’s hands spasmed around my arms, and I sucked in an unsteady breath. His eyes flashed an intense green as he physically lifted me away from him, setting me back down a good foot back. I stared at him, something deep in my chest cracking. “Daemon?” He said nothing as he let go, one finger at a time, it seemed, and his hands slid off my arms. He stepped back, returning his attention to the man behind the desk. “So . . . awkward,” murmured the redhead, smirking. I was rooted to the spot in which I stood, the sting of rejection burning through my skin, shredding my insides like I was nothing more than papier-mâché. “I think someone was expecting more of a reunion,” the Luxen male behind the desk said, his voice ringing with amusement. “What do you think, Daemon?” One shoulder rose in a negligent shrug. “I don’t think anything.” My mouth opened, but there were no words. His voice, his tone, wasn’t like his sister’s, but like it had been when we first met. He used to speak to me with barely leashed annoyance, where a thin veil of tolerance dripped from every word. The rift in my chest deepened.
For the hundredth time since the Luxen arrived, SergeantDasher’s warning came back to me. What side would Daemon and his family stand on? A shudder worked its way down my spine. I wrapped my arms around myself, unable to truly process what had just happened. “And you?” the man asked. When no one answered, he tried again. “Katy?” I was forced to look at him, and I wanted to shrink back from his stare. “What?” I was beyond caring that my voice broke on that one word. The man smiled as he walked around the desk. My gaze flickered over to Daemon as he shifted, drawing the attention of the beautiful redhead. “Were you expecting a more personal greeting?” he asked. “Perhaps something more intimate?” I had no idea how to answer. I felt like I’d fallen into the rabbit hole, and warnings were firing off left and right. Something primal inside me recognized that I was surrounded by predators.
